YL Cypress Oil

One of my favorite Young Living essential oils lately is Cypress oil.  I am using it while I am on the Master Cleanse to help clean and thin the lymphatic system.  Love it.  Feel so much better when I take it.  I take a drop or two in water and drink it and immediately I start to feel better, my eyes get clearer.  I notice that I am even getting thinner.  We have so many lymph nodes/glands in the body.

The lymphatics are the like the “sewage plant” of the body and transport toxins out of the body via the liver, kidneys and large intestine.   Learn more about the lymph system here:

I would not do a lot of cypress unless your colon is open, meaning that you are going reguarly, because you can dump too many toxins too fast and get sick, clogged.

I have done many cleanses, esp when it focuses on the colon and then the liver.

Historical Data:  Cypress is one of the oils most used for the circulatory system.

Medical Properties:  Improves circulation and strengthens blood capillaries; anti-infectious, antispasmodic, discourages fluid retention.

The French scientist Rene Gattefosse was the first to discover these properties when he severely burned his hands in a laboratory explosion. The centuries-old reputation of essential oils for healing, fighting infection, enhancing beauty and uplifting the spirit pervades cultures worldwide. The first written records of essential oils used for health and wellness date back thousands of years in China, India and Egypt. At the turn of the common era, North Africa’s trade route was dominated by the precious oil of frankincense. Through the middle ages and beyond, Europeans used essential oils to tan their glove-leather and also to protect themselves from the infamous plagues. More recently, the French physician, Jean Valnet, wrote about his use of essential oils instead of antibiotics to heal wounded soldiers, and in French hospitals thereafter for everything from dysentery to diphtheria and tuberculosis. No wonder essential oils have continued to be prized by people everywhere.

What we know from contemporary science is that the unique chemical structure of essential oils (they are composed of very small lipid or fatty molecules) enables them to penetrate the membrane surrounding human cells (made of a single layer of very small lipid cells) and thus carry vital nutrients inside. It was specially developed by Gary Young to purify the air of airborne pathogens and neutralize mildew, cigarette smoke, and other odors found in homes, offices and confined areas. It has been known to reduce the unpleasant symptoms of swelling and itching of insect bites and also to repel certain insects. The oils in this blend have been described as having strong healing properties on their own:

* Citronella can be highly antiseptic and anti-spasmodic, and in some instances may be anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory as well. * Lemongrass is known to be strongly antiseptic and anti-parasitic. It is also very calming, highly beneficial for the digestive system, anti-inflammatory, and often used in natural mosquito repellents. * Lavendin is similar to lavender and has many of the same powerful therapeutic properties. * Melaleuca is known to be highly anti-microbial, immune-supporting, decongestant, neurotonic (i.e., it calms jangled nerves) and sometimes even pain-relieving.

6) Peace and Calming – This is a blend of pure essential oils that includes Tangerine, Orange, Ylang ylang, Tanacetum and Patchouly. It was specially developed by Gary Young to help promote relaxation and a sense of calm after a stressful day. When diffused in the home it helps overactive, upset, or hard-to-manage children to relax. Often, such children will repeatedly ask to have Peace and Calming put in the air, on their feet, or in the bath. (We’ve already discussed the numerous therapeutic and anti-microbial properties of citrus oils and Ylang ylang above.)

* Tanacetum (also known as Blue Tansy) is one of the most rare and most therapeutic of the essential oils. It is thought to be highly anti-microbial. It supports the immune system in fighting the symptoms of colds, flu and infection. Additionally, it aids the body’s nervous system by modulating neurotransmitters, reducing stress and bringing about a general feeling of well-being. * Patchouly is among the top 10 oils used in aromatherapy. It is known to be powerfully antiseptic. Additionally, it helps regenerate tissue, and is anti-inflammatory. It is also used as a general tonic that helps bring about a relaxed state when diffused or applied directly.

* Helichrysum has been referred to by Gary Young as a “magic bullet” essential oil. It is an all-around beneficial essential oil that is widely known to help regenerate tissue and reduce tissue pain. Something that was not clear to me at first is that there is a BIG difference between the types of Essential Oils. For all I knew, oils were oils, and even though I knew about lavender scented products in my grocery store – I had no idea about the possibilities of supporting my health, naturally, with Essential Oils. Let me explain, all Young Living Essentials Oils are pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. That means that care has been given to every single drop, to ensure that the medicinal properties have been retained.

There are 4 Grades of Essential Oils:

- Grade A oils are pure therapeutic quality and are usually made from organically grown plants distilled at the proper temperatures using steam distillation.

- Grade B oils are food grade; they may contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, extenders, or carrier oils.

- Grade C oils are perfume grade and may contain the same type of adulterating chemicals as food grade oils. They usually contain solvents which are used to gain a higher yield of oil per harvest. Solvents are normally cancerous.

- Floral Water is a byproduct of the distillation process, a very high quality if it comes from a Grade A distillation process. Accordingly it is of low quality if it comes from poor quality raw materials and or poor distillation processes. It is usually found in skin and hair products.

Oils from plants that have been grown improperly, picked at the wrong time of day, left lying in fields too long, or otherwise degraded by improper distillation or additives are not high quality. For this reason, Young Living not only has its own organic farms, but also contracts with farmers in other countries to grow plants to Young Living’s standards as well. Quality control testing of every batch of oil by 2-4 independent laboratories further guarantees that not only our own oils, but those acquired from wholesalers around the world meet the highest standards under the most rigorous testing conditions.

Why Is Quality So Important?

All the amazing stories about the effectiveness of essential oils for improving almost every aspect of life presume that the oils being used are pure and, where standards have been established, of therapeutic grade.

RAINDROP TECHNIQUE TESTIMONIAL – Thanks to the Raindrop video, I gave a treatment that I really feel good about. My friend has been out of work for over a year and was rear-ended in Sept and has been in terrible pain ever since. Completed treatments for Radiation and Chemo (June 23, 1998) with absolutely no side affects what so ever for bladder cancer and T4 tumors (most aggressive kind). I did this once or twice a day, depending on available time, except for the lemon, which I used occasionally and misted from time to time. I didn’t put it in drinking water as it’s in the Mineral Essence that I took 1 dropper twice a day. The Joy I used each day by rubbing a drop on my finger and thumb, then rubbing it on each ear lobe neet and down the side of my neck over the arteries into the head. Also because I liked the smell, I put a drop on my finger and rubbed it neet on my mustache, so I could smell it for hours, once a day. I also misted it from time to time, no specific time frame.  Hope this helps.  Ron

SINUS INFECTION / UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION – Hi everyone,  I have to say I was a little skeptical. I have been using the Young Living oils for about 1 1/2 years now, but externally..Only a few I use internally, like the Peppermint. Anyway, this past week I came down with what started with upper resp. symptoms, the colored mucous, the cough & congestion & I didn’t want to take antibiotics, so I started to follow the protocol for Bronchitis….then I called on Jeffrey Lewis for his additional advice.  He told me to take Thieves, 6 drops in a capsule every few hours, which I did.  Also to take Thyme, 3 drops in a capsule & lemon oil/grapefruit oil 3 drops/in a cap. It’s been about 4 days now & my infection is almost gone..It spread to my sinuses over this past weekend & I was given a Raindrop yesterday. I feel much better knowing that I don’t have to use Antibiotics anymore……….I did go to the ENT doctor just to get checked out & he gave me some pretty strong, Expensive antibiotic samples & if I were to take them I would probably be on them for more than a week…….Just thought I would share……..Peace & Blessings, Alicia W.

HAIR LOSS – My mother had a perm at the hairdressers and got the shock of her life when her hair started falling out in clumps as a result. The scalp was flaking off and painful as well. Extremely distressed, she got out her Lavender oil and mixed 2 drops with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. She massaged it gently into her scalp and left it on for 1/2 hour before shampooing. After one application, her hair hardly fell out at all. A week later, she did the same thing, and her scalp is now back to normal and her hair shining and abundant once again.

Marjoram and Lavender  – I have had excellent experience with this combination of oils, i.e. using Lavender and Marjoram together. We were in Tuscany, Italy during the summer and temperatures soared at over 40 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees Farenheit). Coming from England, we were unused to the heat and even though we drank bottles of water, we all got headaches and heatstroke. We applied one or two drops Marjoram to the temples, forehead and back of neck and then applied a drop of Lavender over this. It was absolutely amazing how quickly it took effect and how completely well we felt afterwards.

Another way I used Lavender and Marjoram, was when I dislocated my hip a couple of weeks ago. I was in intense pain, and tried several oils including Panaway, Relieve It, Trauma Life, Release, Lemongrass, etc etc. Nothing really helped. Something said to me, try Marjoram and Lavender: I did and the result was extraordinary! I applied 2 drops of Marjoram and 2 drops of Lavender over the hip. I almost immediately began to feel relief and within about 40 minutes the pain had reduced significantly and was no longer radiating down my legs and across the back. I did another application an hour later, and within 2 hours I was jumping with joy!

Lemongrass – When I accidentally received 3 bottles of Lemongrass from Young Living instead of the one I’d ordered, I decided to keep them, for I believed there must be a good reason for this “mistake”. The Universe looks after us in extraordinary ways: Whilst on holiday in the summer, I put out my lower back and developed excruciating pain on a day trip and could hardly breathe or walk the pain was so great. We were in the middle of nowhere, amongst the rolling vineyards and mountains of Tuscany. I had had a feeling that morning to put the Lemongrass in my bag, not wanting to take too many oils with me because I was afraid they would get ruined in the intense Italian summer heatwave. I quickly took out my Lemongrass and in my palm put 2 drops with 10 drops of the olive oil I always carry with me in a dropper bottle. I began to feel almost instant relief and could breathe without pain. I applied another such dose an hour later, and stopped limping. Within 2 hours I was 90% better. I continued using Lemongrass for the next 3 days, 2 drops diluted in 10 drops of olive oil as it is a hot oil. All pain completely disappeared.

This still left me with 2 extra bottles of Lemongrass: It so happened that the Universe had reason for their use as well. Coming from South Africa, my mother cannot unfortunately get the oils sent to that country. When she recently came to London to visit me, she arrived as swollen as a balloon with water retention (Edema) caused by the long haul flight. Her face, hands and especially feet and ankles were double the size and she was in pain because the skin was so stretched by the swelling.

I looked in the EDR and saw Lemongrass is a diuretic, which could help get rid of the extra water in her system. I warned her about it being a hot oil and that she should dilute it with some olive oil. We applied 1 drop Lemongrass to 5 drops olive oil and massaged it around the ankles and on the feet. We did this on both legs. Then I massaged 1 drop of Fennel under each of her feet, Fennel also being a diuretic. She tried taking the Lemongrass internally diluted with 12 drops of olive oil to 1 drop Lemongrass, but it gave her heartburn, so she did not try this again. The relief she got from the pain with the Lemongrass, was almost instantaneous. She was amazed! In fact the Lemongrass, made her feel so good, that when she was alone, she decided to use it neat – big mistake! It burnt the delicate stretched skin. An unpleasant, but useful lesson to respect these wonderful healing oils. The swelling began to go down little by little on the feet, but completely in the hands and face.

I applied soothing Lavender and olive oil to the damaged skin, and it began to heal along with the Reiki she was getting, for the oils work in total harmony with Reiki. We were unconcerned about her long haul flight back home to South Africa, because we knew that these wonderful oils would help look after my mother and keep her well. I gave her the 2 extra bottles of Lemongrass I was “accidentally” sent along with a whole supply of oils I felt she may find of personal use.

Yes, she did swell again after the 14 hours of flying time back home, but this time she knew exactly how to take care of herself. I spoke to her on the phone yesterday, 3 weeks after her return to South Africa and she is completely well again. She just loves the oils and told me she gets great joy to take them out of the special little zipper bag and use them as needed. She’s even discovered a recipe with the oils for the huge flying cocroaches she has in Durban! With love,  Janice

Frankincense Oil

1. Mood uplifting  – Frankincense is very powerful this way. Wear it like a perfume and inhale. Frankincense is a good essential oil to diffuse.

2. Stress Relief – Apply to temples or wear as perfume. Inhale.

3. Frankincense is great for your skin  – Frankincense promotes the regeneration of skin and healthy cells. It is an excellent choice for preventing or reducing wrinkles when used topically.

4. Scar Tissue – Frankincense helps fade scars from acne, stretch marks and surgery.

5. Relieves Itching Skin – Apply a couple drops of Frankincense to the itchy area.

6.  Relieves Pain  – Rub on sore joints to relieve arthritis pain and pain from injuries.

7. Disinfectant for Cuts and Scrapes – Apply a drop of Frankincense to wounds to clean and disinfect.

8. Removes Warts – Apply topically to the wart. Apply a couple times a day until the wart is gone. May take a couple weeks.

9.  Reduces Inflammation – Put a few drops in capsule and take internally or apply topically.

10.  Strengthens Immune System – Apply to bottom of feet or take in capsule.

11. During Pregnancy and Labor – Apply to lower back to ease pain. It also helps with calmin

This week Congress is debating whether to grant themselves the power to turn off parts of the Internet. Fun sites you YouTube. Informative sites like Wikipedia. Political sites like MoveOn.org.

If enacted, new laws would force Internet Service Providers to block websites that any corporation suspects violates a copyright or suspects doesn’t monitor it’s users’ content close enough for copyrighted materials. That means that any website, foreign or based in the U.S., could be wiped out on suspicion and made unavailable to everyone in the world.

This week there will be a historic filibuster of the Internet Censorship Act where the names of every person that signs a petition against Internet censorship will be read. I added my name. Please add yours too.

New Research: Antidepressants Can Cause Long-Term Depression

Shortly after Prozac became the best-selling drug in the world in the early 1990s, I proposed that there was little or no evidence for efficacy, but considerable evidence that the drug would worsen depression and cause severe behavioral abnormalities. I attributed much of the problem to “compensatory changes” in neurotransmitters as the brain resists the drug effect. Since then, in a series of books and articles, I’ve documented antidepressant-induced clinical worsening and some of its underlying physical causes. Now the idea has gained ground in the broader research community and has recently been named “tardive dysphoria.”

It has been apparent for many years that chronic exposure to SSRI antidepressants frequently makes people feel apathetic or less engaged in their lives, and ultimately more depressed. In my clinical experience, this is a frequent reason that family members encourage patients to seek help in reducing or stopping their medication. SSRI-induced apathy occurs in adults and includes cognitive and frontal lobe function losses. (See Barnhart et al., 2004; Deakin et al., 2004; Hoehn-Saric et al., 1990). It has also been identified in children. Adults with dementia are particularly susceptible to antidepressant-induced apathy.

A recent scientific study by El-Mallakh and his colleagues reviewed the antidepressant literature and concluded that any initial improvements are often followed by treatment resistance and worsening depression. They compare this problem to tardive dyskinesia, caused by antipsychotic drugs, and call it tardive dysphoria, “an active process in which a depressive picture is caused by continued administration of the antidepressant.” Based on rat studies, they hypothesize that “dendrite arborization” — an increased branching growth of nerve cells — caused by chronic antidepressant exposure, may be the cause.

In a meta-analysis of 46 studies, Andrews et al. (2011) found the relapse rate for antidepressant-treated patients (44.6 percent) was much higher than for placebo-treated patients (24.7 percent). Andrews also found that the more potent antidepressants caused an increased risk of relapse on drug discontinuation. A 2010 Minnesota evaluation of patient care in the state found that only 4.5 percent of more than 20,000 patients were in remission at 12 months, indicating that they had become chronically afflicted with depression during and probably as a result of their treatment.

Andrews et al. (2011), like El-Mallakh et al. (2011), stress what I had first described as compensatory mechanisms. SSRI antidepressants block the removal of serotonin from the synapses between neurons, in effect trying to flood these synapses with serotonin. Many studies confirm that the brain attempts to compensate for the impact of the SSRIs by reducing the brain’s capacity to respond to serotonin. This leads to a loss of serotonin receptors that can reach 60 percent. Blockade of serotonin reuptake causes a potentially harmful adaptive response in the form of a persistent hypertrophy of the reuptake mechanism. Additional studies show persistent biochemical changes in the brain following exposure to SSRI antidepressants.

Antidepressants are the second most prescribed group of drugs in America. Yet evidence continues to converge on the dangerousness of antidepressant drugs. Given the difficulty showing any effectiveness even in the short-term, the use of these drugs becomes more and more problematic. On top of that, the antidepressants produce serious withdrawal reactions, making it difficult and at times life-threatening to withdraw from them, even with the recommended clinical supervision and slow taper. Psychiatry has always been slow to respond to scientific evidence that its treatments are harmful. Often, as in this case, psychiatry flouts science. The public will have to develop its own resistance to taking antidepressant drugs.

SALT LAKE CITY—November 16, 2011—The San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán Archaeological Project (SLTAP) has recently uncovered Olmec pottery shards in southern Veracruz, Mexico, that suggest the Olmec people were among the world’s earliest users of cacao, the beans from which chocolate is made. Benefits of Slique Tea!

Second only to water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage around the globe. Its desirable taste and relaxation and weight-management effects are just a few of the reasons why. These qualities found in tea can be traced to a unique, naturally occurring, and neurologically active amino acid known as L-theanine.

L-theanine is a free amino acid found almost exclusively in tea plants. It is the predominant amino acid in green tea leaves, giving green tea its pleasant, savory taste.  Ingredients:

 • Sandalwood (Santalum album) is high in sesquiterpene compounds which stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain, the center of emotions and memory. Used traditionally in yoga and meditation.

 • Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma and J. scopulorum) elevates spiritual awareness creating feelings of love and peace.

 • Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) is considered a holy anointing oil in theMiddle East and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. It stimulates the limbic part of the brain, which elevates the mind.

 • Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) is referenced throughout the Bible, constituting a part of a holy anointing formula given to Moses (Exodus 30:22-27). Diffusing or directly inhaling essential oils can have an immediate positive impact on mood. Olfaction is the only sense that can have direct effects on the limbic region of the brain (see chart on page 2). Studies at theUniversityofViennahave shown that some essential oils and their primary constituents (cineol) can stimulate blood flow and activity in the emotional regions of the brain. Clinical studies at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mie University of Medicine showed that lemon not only reduced depression but reduced stress when inhaled.

Achieve More with Gary Young’s Great Day Essential Oils Protocol!

For the last 15 days, every morning after I shower, I have been practicing a very simple, yet very profound, essential oils regimen.

It’s called “Gary Young’s Great Day Protocol,” which consists of the essential oil blends Valor®, Harmony™, Joy™, and White Angelica™. I call it premium self-care for amplifying my daily intentions.

Since I have been following this simple protocol with these four blends, I have found my attention to the smaller details, which can be tricky for me, has become a lot more focused. My communications have become more solution-oriented with others and I am noticing that my enthusiasm has increased. Better yet, my follow-through for working on the bigger “back burner” projects is now in action.

Here’s the protocol for beginning your great day:

Step 1: Have your Valor, Harmony, Joy, and White Angelica essential oil blends readily available. I have them all lined up on my dresser and anoint myself before getting dressed.

Start with Valor, also known for balancing the body’s electrical energy. Apply a few drops in the palm of your left hand, gently rub your palms together, and bring your oiled palms to your nose and inhale. Set your intention for the day, utilizing the grounding properties of this blend. Next, put some Valor on the back of your neck and then place another drop on the inside of your wrists and hold your wrist together for a moment. As you hold the pulse points of your wrists together, again breathe in the oil blend and take a moment to be still while affirming your intentions for the day. What state of being would you like to cultivate? What do you want to accomplish today?

Step 2: Harmony

Place a drop of Harmony on your left palm, rub your palms together, inhaling the oil blend and place some Harmony on your solar plexus, just below your sternum, and above your belly button. This is your third chakra, or your “will” energy center. As you inhale the aroma, use the affirmation, “Let my will harmonize and align to the greater good for all I connect with today.” You may have a specific intention for harmonizing with your customers, your co-workers, family, friends, etc.

Step 3: Joy

This blend is one of Young Living’s signature essential oils and is known for helping lift depression, soothe a broken heart, and may also serve as an aphrodisiac! Place a drop of Joy into your left palm, rub your hands together, and slowly inhale the scent. Then place your hands on your heart. If you are looking to heal your heart or become more open hearted, use these moments to let this blend infuse into your heart’s desire.

Step 4: White Angelica

This blend is known for its properties for energetic protection, like a bouncer for negative energy or disturbing thoughts. Place a drop of White Angelica in your left palm, rub your palms together and deeply inhale. Then gently brush your palms over the crown of your head, down your neck, shoulders, chest, torso, and all the way down your legs to your feet. Imagine this blend encasing your entire body, like a guardian shield. Again, revisit your intention for your day.

Give yourself a week withGary’s Great Day Protocol and keep a log of how you are feeling and what you notice each day. If you have a willing partner, family member, or friend to share this protocol with, even better!
