With the use of a neti pot and certain Young Living Essential oils, sinus infections can become a distant memory.
Rosemary and Melaleuca Alternifolia essential oils can be used in a saline solution for very effective nasal irrigation that clears and decongests sinuses. As recommended by Daniel Pénoël, MD, the saline solution is prepared as follows:
The essential oils are mixed thoroughly in the fine salt and stored in a sealed container. For each nasal irrigation session, 1 teaspoon of this salt mixture is dissolved into 1 ½ cups distilled water.
This oils/salt/water solution is then placed in the tank of an oral irrigator to irrigate the nasal cavities, which is done while bending over a sink. This application has brought surprisingly positive results in treating latent sinusitis and other nasal congestion problems.

Rosemary essential oil 15 mL
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis CT cineol) has a fresh, herbaceous, sweet, slightly medicinal aroma. An energizing oil, it may be beneficial for helping to restore mental alertness when experiencing fatigue.* It is also a popular ingredient in skin and hair care products. This oil should be diluted before use and is recommended for adult use only. Rosemary may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods while cooking. Rosemary has an approximate ORAC of 3,309 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter
How To Use: For dietary or topical use. When using as a supplement, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid such as soy or rice milk. Note: Possible skin sensitivity. If pregnant or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Dilution recommended for both topical and internal use. Dilute before using on sensitive areas such as the face, neck, genital area, etc. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on children under 4 years of age.
Seven Suggestions for “Sinus Sufferers”
If you do these things individually they can be very helpful. If you do them all simultaneously they are sure to help.
–Eliminate Causative Foods. . .
. . .these are most often sugar, refined carbs, dairy (especially aged cheeses), and alcohol. Want to know the worst combo? Wine eaten with aged cheese and a sugary desert!
–Use a Neti Pot for Nasal Irrigation. . .
. . .this is a great way to give a little bath to the mucous membranes of the sinuses. Sinuses are dark moist environments made up of mucous membranes that can be a breeding ground for unwanted microbes. When there is an overgrowth of these germs, sinus problems and infections ensue.
–Humidify OR Dehumidify Your Environment. . .
. . .if you live in a dry environment and need more moisture, humidify your living space – and if humid and damp – which can breed fungus and mold, dehumidify.
–Get Rid of Mold in Your Environment. .
. . with the best product that has been researched and scientifically proven to be naturally effective against mold – Thieves Essential oil. Diffuse it.
–Keep Your House Free from Dust. . .
Diffusing your essential oils can help minimize particles and dust along with killing unwanted microbes in your environment.
–Inhale Essential Oils. . .
. . .the absolute best way to get rid of those pathogenic microbes (aka “the bad bugs”), that hang out in your nasal passages and sinuses. Doing this in conjunction with the Neti Pot is powerful! Great oils to use are peppermint, ravensara, R.C., and Raven (YL blends). (Use only therapeutic grade oils! – Young Living Essential Oils)
–Cleanse Your Colon. . .
People that have sinus problems are frequently dealing with constipation. If you are curious as to that connection, here are two reasons why:
–in Chinese Medicine breathing mechanisms and the colon go together (Lung and Large Intestine share the same meridian)
–Bernard Jensen (nutritionally oriented chiropractor who authored many books, and a proponent of colonics) taught that there were reflex points in the large intestine that related to the sinuses.
Essential Oil Tip: The Secret for Sinuses!
Raven™ is a combination of deeply soothing therapeutic grade essential oils that will provide comfort when applied topically to the chest and throat or diffused.
R.C.™ contains powerful therapeutic-grade essential oils that are invigorating when applied, especially to the chest and throat area. R.C. is a wonderful blend to diffuse during winter.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion, it may also restore digestive efficiency.* Jean Valnet MD studied peppermint’s supportive effect on the liver and respiratory systems. Other scientists have also researched peppermint’s role in improving taste and smell when inhaled. Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati studied peppermint’s ability to improve concentration and mental sharpness. Alan Hirsch MD studied peppermint’s ability to directly affect the brain’s satiety center, which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals. This powerful essential oil is often diluted before topical application. Peppermint may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water.
